Job Summary As Corporate Counsel for Percona, you will provide legal guidance and strategic advice to the organization. You will collaborate with the executive team, cross-functional teams, and external partners to ensure legal compliance, manage risks, and support growth initiatives. If you are a pragmatic, business‑oriented attorney who enjoys ownership and managing the legal function, this could be the right role for you. What You Will Do Leading and managing the compliance, privacy, and contracts functions (currently a team of 5)

Operational planning, budgeting, and staff development

Develop strong, trusted relationships with executives in all departments

Provide training to executives, business stakeholders, and staff on legal topics

Collaborate cross-functionally to identify and address product, regulatory, privacy, and other legal risks

Identify and analyze legal risks and devise creative solutions

Design and implement company policies and procedures to foster legal compliance

Advise executives and the board on potential legal risks and mitigation strategies

Draft, negotiate, and review a broad range of commercial contracts, including master service agreements and data/licensing agreements

Support procurement by reviewing agreements for vendors, partners, events, employment, real estate, and other initiatives

Act as Privacy Officer and oversee privacy requirements, audits, and compliance

Corporate Governance Provide strategic legal entity advice for a complex organizational structure

Manage Percona's IP portfolio, including trademarks, branding, patents, copyrights, trade secrets, and open-source licenses

Assist in continuous improvements of forms, policies, and processes

Liaise with external counsel and coordinate projects between counsel and Percona stakeholders

Collaborate with HR on employment agreements and labor/compliance issues

Stay up to date with global regulatory and legal requirements affecting products and operations

What You Have Done Law degree from an ABA-accredited university

8-10+ years of corporate legal experience (in-house and/or law firm)

Strong interpersonal and presentation skills; effective communication across all levels

Experience negotiating legal, commercial, and financial agreements with international customers, vendors, and partners

Knowledge of international privacy laws (GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA) and standards (SOC 2, ISO 27001, PCI-DSS)

Experience with open-source software and FOSS licenses

Experience in technology, SaaS, and commercial transactions

Ability to assess real-world risk and negotiate in fast-paced environments

Mix of startup/in-house and law firm experience preferred

Understanding the business side of a growing technology company serving international customers

Experience managing a geographically distributed remote team

Closing This is primarily a work-from-home position with travel for meetings up to four times per year.
