The Org Chart/The Team/The Portfolio

This role reports to the Assistant Corporate Controller who Reports to the Corporate Controller. 8 people on the team which includes a Manager, Sr. Staff and Staff level. A GAAP background and a good STAT background is needed; a skill set around researching investment accounting policy is important and a skill set around middle office investment operations would be ideal. The role supports a $15b portfolio made up mostly of fixed income. The location is Princeton 2 days a week (the preference) but there's a NYC office also.

The Head of Investment Accounting is responsible for managing the Investment Accounting department, overseeing staff, and providing technical accounting expertise. Key areas of focus include financial reporting, technical investment accounting, researching accounting guidance, and handling special projects. This role requires strong leadership skills, the ability to communicate effectively with third-party service providers and internal stakeholders, and expertise in problem-solving, financial analysis, accounting research, tax-related issues, and investment processes. Additionally, the position plays a crucial role in developing accounting policies and resolving complex technical accounting issues.

Responsibilities

Ensure accurate and timely compilation of investment accounting data, analysis, and reporting in compliance with IFRS, GAAP, and STAT accounting standards. Manage and oversee financial processing and reporting for the Investment Accounting department at the US Shared Services Company. Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end accounting close processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and reporting to internal stakeholders. Analyze, research, and document complex investment transactions or changes in accounting standards. Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal asset managers and third-party service providers. Supervise and evaluate the daily activities of the investment accounting team, applying performance management practices and identifying training opportunities. Prepare and manage investment reporting schedules and disclosures for STAT and GAAP quarterly and annual statements.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. Public accounting firm experience is a plus. CPA required; insurance-specific designations (e.g., CPCU, ARe) are a plus Minimum of 10+ years of experience in accounting, preferably in investment accounting or analysis within an insurance environment. 3+ years of supervisory experience. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to present to senior management
