Base pay range $150,000.00/yr - $185,000.00/yr Additional compensation types Annual Bonus Job Title: In-House Employment Attorney Location: Chicago / Remote / Would like candidate within a 3 hour commute of Chicago Reports To: General Counsel Position Overview We are seeking a skilled Employment Attorney with approximately 3 years of experience to join our in-house legal team. The ideal candidate will provide legal counsel on a wide range of employment law issues, ensure compliance with labor regulations, and help develop and implement workplace policies to support our growing organization. Key Responsibilities Advise HR and management on employment law matters, including wage and hour compliance, employee relations, terminations, leaves of absence, accommodations, and workplace investigations. Draft, review, and update employment agreements, separation agreements, handbooks, and workplace policies to ensure legal compliance and alignment with company practices. Manage and respond to employee complaints, administrative charges (e.g., EEOC, DOL), and pre-litigation matters. Support internal investigations and ensure proper documentation and risk mitigation. Monitor changes in federal, state, and local employment laws and provide guidance to internal stakeholders. Collaborate with HR on training programs for managers and employees regarding workplace compliance, anti-discrimination, and other employment-related topics. Assist in managing external counsel on litigation or complex employment matters. Provide guidance on employment aspects of business initiatives, mergers, or reorganizations. Qualifications Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school; admitted to practice law in [State or eligible for in-house counsel registration]. 3+ years of employment law experience , preferably from a law firm or a mix of law firm and in-house practice. Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws, including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, Title VII, and state-specific regulations. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. Preferred Skills Experience handling workplace investigations and administrative agency matters. Familiarity with multi-state compliance issues. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
