Lead Fund Controller – Private Equity

Location: Boston, MA (Hybrid)

A growing, Boston-based private equity firm is seeking a Lead Fund Controller to join its leadership team. The firm focuses on middle-market buyouts across North America and is currently investing out of a recently raised fund. Known for its collaborative culture and long-term value creation, the firm offers a unique opportunity to take ownership of the fund finance function in a highly visible role.

Role Overview

The Lead Fund Controller will oversee all fund-level accounting, reporting, and operations. Reporting directly to the CFO, this person will manage external fund administrators, lead audits, and play a key role in capital activity, valuations, and investor communications. This is an ideal opportunity for a seasoned fund accounting professional who wants to own and scale the finance infrastructure at a dynamic, high-performing private equity firm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead quarterly/annual fund reporting, including NAVs, LP statements, and capital account balances
  • Manage capital calls, distributions, and LP notices
  • Oversee fund audits and liaise with external auditors and fund administrators
  • Maintain and monitor waterfall models and carried interest allocations
  • Support valuation processes and compliance with ASC 820
  • Evaluate and improve internal controls and fund accounting systems

What We’re Looking For

  • 8-12+ years of fund accounting experience (PE, VC, or Real Estate)
  • CPA preferred; Big Four or fund admin background is a strong plus
  • Strong technical knowledge of US GAAP and partnership accounting
  • Hands-on experience with capital call/distribution processes and LP reporting
  • Comfortable working independently and owning key deliverables
  • Experience with Investran, eFront, or similar platforms is a bonus
