Nuclear Surety Technical Lead Engineer (Secret - Hybrid Remote)

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking an experienced Nuclear Surety Technical Lead Engineer to support a high-profile client supporting a U.S. Navy SLCM-N program. This role is critical to the success of strategic missions, providing technical leadership and systems engineering expertise across the lifecycle of advanced missile systems.
The ideal candidate will bring deep knowledge of nuclear surety and system safety engineering, along with proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams in complex defense environments.
Location: Rockville, MD (Hybrid Remote - 3 Days Onsite)
Key Responsibilities:
Lead a team of subject matter experts in implementing systems engineering strategies for nuclear surety and safety
Develop and execute technical plans aligned with strategic program goals
Oversee the creation and maintenance of safety deliverables and ensure compliance with Navy SSP directives
Facilitate technical meetings and present project status to senior Navy and client leadership
Provide guidance on risk management, safety program implementation, and lifecycle surety engineering processes
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to shape requirements and drive innovative solutions
Required Qualifications:
DoD clearance required: Secret - TS/SCI
Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field and 10+ years of relevant experience, or Master's degree with 8+ years
Candidates with a high school diploma and 20+ years of experience will also be considered
Strong background in nuclear surety and system safety engineering
Experience supporting complex system design and development in a technical leadership role
Familiarity with Navy operations and strategic weapon systems
Excellent communication and leadership skills, with experience presenting to senior stakeholders
Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage technical execution across the product lifecycle
Preferred Skills:
Prior experience supporting nuclear surety programs or missile systems (e.g., Trident, Minuteman, Peacekeeper)
Knowledge of DoD/DOE technical services and acquisition programs
Experience developing safety program plans and conducting hazard/safety assessments
Certifications such as Systems Safety Engineering, Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or OHSMS
Deep understanding of the end-to-end systems engineering lifecycle
Compensation: Salary Range: $200,000 - $240,000 (compensation varies on position and relevant years of experience and education)
