Principal Data Scientist – Natural Language Processing

Fidelity Workplace Investing is seeking Data Scientists with experience in natural language processing, large language models, machine learning, and knowledge graphs. This position will be based full time in Boston, MA.

The purpose of your role is to lead high-profile data science and AI projects, working closely with Technology, Product Management, and other teams across multiple business units to develop AI-based solutions. You will develop advanced AI models and technologies with NLP, Large Language Models (LLMs), ML, and knowledge graphs to enable high performance of AI models. You should be comfortable in a fast-paced, sometimes ambiguous environment, working with current and emerging AI technologies. Responsibilities include model development with NLP/LLM/ML, data gathering from multiple sources, data processing and analysis, knowledge graph development, unstructured data analysis, predictive and prescriptive analytics, interpretation of findings, presentation, and system implementation. You will support projects across many areas with a strong emphasis on quality, data gathering and analysis, and clear communication to Workplace Investing and Fidelity Enterprise."

Responsibilities

  • Lead data science and AI projects involving NLP, LLMs, ML, and knowledge graph development.
  • Gather, process, and analyze data from multiple sources; develop and deploy AI models in production environments.
  • Interpret findings, present results, and implement systems in collaboration with product, IT, and data engineering teams.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment and communicate with stakeholders at all levels.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Computer Science, Information Science, or related STEM field with extensive research in NLP, deep learning, knowledge graphs, reasoning; or Master’s Degree with 10 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Deep understanding of NLP, LLMs, deep learning, ML, knowledge graphs, and reasoning.
  • Strong Python and SQL programming with experience in data extraction, engineering, analysis, modeling, and pipeline automation. Ability to write object-oriented solutions and streamline models preferred.
  • Excellent verbal communication, presentation, and technical writing skills; able to explain complex concepts to nontechnical audiences and interact with management across functions.
  • Proficiency in information design with the ability to visualize data for clear understanding.
  • Experience with information retrieval, question answering, DL and LLM technologies.

  • Set strategic direction for model and knowledge graph development, data identification, collection, and qualification activities.
  • Lead data analysis for multiple projects with diverse scope and complex challenges across business units.
  • Develop best practices for data science across the analytical lifecycle.
  • Develop guidelines for evaluating new analytical tools and platforms.
  • Implement new technologies in production with product, IT, and data engineering teams.
  • Present reports and findings to senior-level technical and non-technical audiences.
