The Seattle Office for Civil Rights (SOCR) provides leadership in upholding civil rights and advancing racial equity in the City of Seattle. We are seeking two leaders centered by their commitment to racial equity and empowerment to join SOCR as RSJ Strategic Advisors. RSJ Strategic Advisors provide support and advice to City departments and racial equity practitioners to support the objectives of Race and Social Justice (RSJ) at the direction of the RSJ Division Director. RSJ represents the City of Seattle’s commitment to end institutionalized racism and race-based disparities in City government. In 2023, Seattle enacted legislation (CB 120525) codifying the Race and Social Justice into law and directs SOCR to: Develop analytical tools to identify equity impacts of City policies, practices, and decision-making.
Develop city-wide guidelines for community outreach, communication, and engagement to maximize community opportunities to shape City policies and services.
Identify opportunities to improve fairness and opportunity in City practices.
Provide a forum to promote collaboration citywide on racial equity and social justice foundational practices and frameworks.
Support city departments in identifying equity-related service gaps, setting measurable racial equity and social justice goals, creating departmental action plans to achieve them, and developing systems of accountability.
Guide equitable funding analysis and practices in departmental annual budgets.
Support departments in developing an integrated external focus that helps departments reach their racial and social justice goals.
Here is more about what you will be doing: Collaborating with RSJ Division staff and the broader RSJ Network to implement RSJ strategic initiatives. Facilitating training, communication, policies, partnerships, and coordination of interdepartmental efforts in key equity areas. Serving as a technical advisor to co-create and lead comprehensive analyses for city departments, including using the Racial Equity Toolkits, Equitable Budgeting Rubrics, Racial Equity Action Plans, and other RSJ tools. Providing guidance and operational assistance to city departments in developing strategies to achieve measurable racial equity and social justice goals. Supporting broad-scale data analysis and metrics for RSJ equity strategies and strategic direction, including baseline data, reporting, and key campaigns on priority issues. Convening and facilitating citywide internal and external racial equity practitioners via Interdepartmental Teams (IDTs) and focus groups. You will be prepared for this role if you possess the following: Deep understanding of racial equity and social justice, anti-racist principles, and institutional racism, with the ability to apply this knowledge in a city government setting. Understanding of intersectional racial justice that includes gender justice, disability justice, and other intersectional considerations for the City of Seattle's 18 protected classes. Experience navigating difficult conversations about racism with people of all identities and backgrounds. Experience working closely with communities of color, immigrant and refugee communities, and other historically marginalized communities. You will be most successful if you have demonstrated a commitment to anti-racist work, racial equity, cultural work, facilitation, project management, community organizing, and social justice in your professional practice, volunteer work, and/or lived experience. Your ability to be deeply curious, self-aware and manage conflict and difficult situations is essential. Your critical thinking skills, sound judgment, racial analysis skills, and your understanding of how change happens in institutional systems and settings will contribute to your success. Salary : This civil-service position is classified as a Strategic Advisor 1, General Government L-17 in the City payroll system and is represented by PROTECT 17, Strategic Advisors unit. The full pay range for this discretionary title is $50.08 - $75.12 per hour. The salary for this role has been identified as $58.20 per hour. This position is exempt from FLSA and not eligible for overtime.
Schedule : This role offers the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule, with three days a week in the office. Telework option is available two days a week under current policy. This position may need to work occasional evenings/weekends. Individual schedules will be based on agreement between the employee and their supervisor.
