Senior Director, Education & Training Samaritans, Inc. is seeking a Senior Director of Education & Training to lead the education and training function across the organization. This role educates internally and externally about suicide prevention, intervention and postvention through training, workshops and community events. Internal training includes oversight of helpline training for all crisis programs. Workshops occur in settings such as schools, corporations, non-profit organizations, and more.
The Senior Director will oversee the department, provide programmatic leadership to staff, and develop new training and curriculums reflecting best practices in suicide prevention, intervention and postvention to reach new audiences.
Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
Develop and implement the organization\'s training strategy to support suicide prevention, intervention and postvention goals and service delivery standards
Identify emerging trends, research, and evidence-based practices and integrate them into training programs
Collaborate with leadership to align training initiatives with organizational objectives and funding requirements
Develop and implement plans for the department in an effective and innovative fashion
Education & Training
Plan and design curricula for educational programs for varied audiences; define educational goals, objectives, and methodologies
Ensure training content is trauma-informed, culturally competent, and compliant with relevant regulations and guidelines
Deliver and train the team to deliver high-impact training sessions in-person and virtually
Develop and implement initiatives targeting specialized populations and geographic communities
Lead efforts to have Samaritans training materials approved by recognized standards (e.g., Best Practices Registry at the Suicide Prevention Resource Center)
Operations
Participate as a senior member of the agency\'s program management team
Oversee daily operations of the education and training team
Evaluate problems accurately and resolve conflicts with sound judgment
Assess and report progress to leadership and Board of Directors
Manage department staffing needs (hiring, training, evaluations)
Participate in budget development and monitor expenses
Quality Assurance & Evaluation
Establish and monitor training quality standards, including pre/post evaluations and metrics
Improve training methods and materials based on evaluations and new research
Enhance virtual programs and ensure appropriate technology support
Maintain compliance with external regulations and internal policies
Maintain up-to-date certification in evidence-based practices
Management
Supervise and mentor training staff, contractors, and volunteer trainers
Apply HR practices related to hiring, supervision, and performance feedback
Build trainer capacity through coaching and professional development
Stakeholder Engagement
Maintain relationships with partner organizations, funders, and community stakeholders
Represent the organization at conferences, coalitions, and public events
Community Relations & Communication
Represent Samaritans in the community and foster partnerships with relevant agencies
Facilitate communication and promote awareness of community education programs
Establish Samaritans as a thought leader in suicide prevention through conferences, papers, and presentations
Requirements
Some travel for workshops, trainings, and industry conferences
Ability to lift/move supplies and work outdoors for events
Flexible working hours as needed to meet organizational goals
Successfully complete Samaritans\' internal trainings including helpline training for crisis programs
Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Key Qualifications
Minimum seven years of professional experience in a social service agency
Minimum five years of managerial experience in the mental health field with a focus on curriculum design and delivery
Master\'s degree in education, public health, human services or related field preferred
Experience managing large teams in high-stakes environments
Familiarity with helpline operations and metrics
Knowledge of suicide prevention, intervention and postvention
Knowledge of curriculum development and theory
Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality
Strong communication and presentation skills
Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Salesforce experience preferred
Strong analytical thinking and organizational skills
Detail oriented with ability to meet deadlines
Salary & Benefits
The salary range for this position is $104,000 - $120,000 annually, determined by experience and skill set.
