Senior Manager - Cyber Security Platform (Hybrid - Seattle)
Job Description We are seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Manager of Security Platform Engineering to lead our security platform engineering team. This role is responsible for managing and enhancing our suite of security controls and platforms that protect Nordstrom’s enterprise environment. The ideal candidate will drive technical strategy for security tooling, optimize platform performance, and lead initiatives to modernize our security infrastructure while building a high-performing engineering team. Collaboration across the organization is essential to ensure seamless implementation and operation of security controls that protect our business, employees, customers, and data.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Platform Vision
Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for security platforms across multiple domains.
Drive modernization initiatives to streamline security tooling and enhance protection capabilities.
Create implementation plans aligned with security and business objectives.
Prioritize security platform enhancements based on emerging threats and trends.
Establish security metrics to demonstrate value and effectiveness.
Partner with security leadership to translate strategy into actionable plans.
Program Management & Technical Execution
Lead design, implementation, and lifecycle management of security platforms.
Oversee RFP processes and evaluations for new security tools.
Manage security platform migrations and upgrades with minimal disruption.
Establish standards, best practices, and architectural patterns.
Partner with IT and application teams for platform integration.
Oversee incident response for platform-related security events.
Team Leadership & Development
Build, lead, and mentor a diverse team of security engineers.
Establish team structure for operational excellence and innovation.
Create development plans aligned with career goals.
Implement performance management frameworks.
Foster a culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning.
Identify and develop emerging leaders within the team.
Stakeholder Management & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Build strategic partnerships across IT and business units.
Represent security platform needs in initiatives and committees.
Communicate security concepts effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
Manage dependencies with partner teams for platform deployment.
Collaborate with governance and compliance teams to meet regulatory requirements.
Partner with SOC and incident response teams to support detection and response capabilities.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or related field, or equivalent experience.
8+ years in information security or cybersecurity, focusing on engineering, architecture, or operations.
3-5 years in security management roles leading high-performing teams.
Deep understanding of enterprise security architecture and technologies.
Experience leading security platform implementations, migrations, or upgrades.
Knowledge of security frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001, CIS Controls).
Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and communication skills.
Ability to translate security requirements into technical solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in a relevant field.
Experience with cloud security and hybrid environments.
Relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, CCSP, AWS Security).
Experience with DevOps and security automation.
Knowledge of retail or e-commerce security challenges.
Experience with security tools like CrowdStrike, Microsoft Defender, Splunk.
