We seek a team player with solid technical skills to join our engineering team. This position is based in Herndon, VA, with a remote work option.
The Senior Principal Solutions Architect should have experience in satellite ground systems and networking infrastructure, with knowledge of satellite communication concepts, system management, and networking protocols. Experience with VSAT waveforms is desirable. The role involves developing key technologies and platforms, requiring deep theoretical knowledge and practical application through architectural and design documents. The candidate will be a subject matter expert and a guiding force within the engineering organization.
Responsibilities
Contribute to architectural vision and customer objectives on next-generation terrestrial, cellular, wireless, and satellite waveforms, including DVB-S2X.
Perform systems engineering and architecture development using emerging technologies.
Integrate complex technologies such as RF, interference mitigation, networking, and network management into solutions accessible to non-satellite experts.
Create mathematical simulations of communication channels to study improvements and system efficiency.
Lead design efforts for advances in adaptive TDMA, SCPC, DAMA, and IoT return channels, including real-time control algorithms.
Engage with standards bodies to align proposed standards with company interests.
Collaborate with customers, partners, and management on product innovations.
Build customer confidence through technical leadership, demonstrations, and negotiations.
Draft internal and external technical documents.
Coordinate with platform and engineering teams on system design issues.
Stay informed on technological trends and third-party technologies.
Qualifications
7+ years in Solution Architecture
20+ years in software and system solution development
Experience with provider-level networking systems
Ability to learn and innovate in SDR links
Experience designing solutions for complex systems with high-power computing and embedded hardware
Experience with micro-services architectures, containers, and orchestration tools
Excellent technical communication skills
Proficiency in authoring technical documents and white papers
Leadership in technical discussions and design capture
Experience managing project delivery within schedule and budget
Skills in RF link budget analysis, cascade analyses, and system studies
Additional Skills (Plus)
Experience in system testing, scripting, and automation
Knowledge of Web Services, API design, and system interfaces
Cloud technologies, security, and virtualized environments
Networking protocols and database design
Experience in Agile/Scrum environments and satellite communication
Familiarity with orbital mechanics simulators
Education BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related field
Clearance Active DoD security clearance or ability to obtain a secret level clearance.
