This role offers a unique opportunity to serve as a key legal resource, providing expert counsel on a wide range of privacy and commercial matters. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in both privacy law, particularly HIPAA, and commercial transactions within the healthcare technology space. This is a pivotal role for a self-starter who is eager to contribute significantly to the legal function, collaborate across business units, and has the potential for future leadership within the department. Candidates should be team players who are curious, humble and can work cooperatively toward the goals of the companies in a matrixed organization. Key responsibilities include providing expert legal counsel and guidance on federal and state privacy laws including HIPAA, drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and interpreting a wide variety of commercial agreements such as SaaS agreements, licensing agreements, vendor contracts, IT outsourcing, business associate agreements, and other technology-related transactions within healthcare IT. The role also involves serving as a legal advisor to various business units, managing and responding to data security incidents, monitoring and analyzing new privacy laws, collaborating with cross-functional teams, assisting with development and maintenance of legal templates, supporting mergers and acquisitions, and potentially managing and mentoring other legal team members. Qualifications include a Juris Doctor degree, admission to at least one U.S. state bar, minimum 5 years relevant legal experience focusing on privacy law and commercial transactions in healthcare IT, experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements, strong understanding of U.S. privacy laws, prior in-house legal experience, excellent analytical and communication skills, and strong leadership potential. Minimal travel is expected. The position is remote within the U.S., preferably Eastern or Central Time Zone.
