Senior Director, Software Engineering

Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire

Location: Denver, CO (DTC area)

Schedule: Initially onsite, transitioning to hybrid

Salary: $150k-$190k + 20% bonus

THE OPPORTUNITY

As Senior Director of Software Engineering , you will lead engineering teams in a dynamic, evolving environment where both high-code and low-code platforms coexist. This role is ideal for a candidate who not only demonstrates deep technical expertise in traditional engineering, but who also embraces modern principles like low-code adoption , co-creation with business teams , UX-led development , and agile, iterative delivery .

We are building a hybrid ecosystem : combining custom software with strategic use of platforms like OutSystems , Mendix , and Power Apps to accelerate delivery while preserving critical control and performance. We're looking for a leader who can guide this integration, not resist it.

Key Responsibilities

Define and execute a technical strategy that blends custom engineering with low-code innovation, aligning with broader product and business objectives. Lead and mentor high-performing engineering teams while cultivating cross-functional collaboration between product, UX, and business stakeholders. Champion agile and federated development practices, including citizen development and co-creation across IT and business units. Oversee full SDLC including solution architecture, secure coding, testing, and deployment, while continuously improving quality and velocity. Promote a product-led mindset, with an emphasis on user-centric design, experimentation, and rapid feedback loops. Balance engineering excellence with pragmatism-avoid over-engineering by prioritizing simplicity, reuse, and scalability. Develop and manage budgets, headcount plans, vendor relationships, and delivery roadmaps across global teams. Stay abreast of evolving low-code platforms and recommend when and how they should be integrated into our stack. Build metrics and KPIs for product delivery, team health, and stakeholder satisfaction. Ensure compliance with data security, privacy, and regulatory standards throughout the engineering lifecycle.

Qualifications

<> Must-Have Competencies

Demonstrated ability to balance high-code solutions with low-code platforms; able to evaluate tradeoffs and avoid unnecessary customization. Experience in hybrid application ecosystems that combine proprietary, commercial, and platform-based technologies. Strong belief in co-creation and scaled agile models-partnering effectively with business users, product managers, and design leads. Track record of mentoring product- and UX-conscious engineers, rather than just technically elite teams. Comfortable navigating ambiguity and guiding incremental innovation vs. monolithic project cycles.

Experience

Bachelor's in Computer Science or related field (Master's preferred) 10+ years in software engineering with 5+ in leadership roles Proven success managing globally distributed teams Hands-on with cloud-native architecture (Azure preferred), DevOps, APIs, microservices Familiarity with or openness to low-code platforms (e.g., OutSystems, Mendix, Power Apps) Background in ecommerce or consumer tech is a plus
