Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Senior Principal Systems Engineer - Technical Lead with specialized experience in DoD ACAT I programs and proficiency in strategic deterrence solutions to support a high-profile U.S. Navy weapon system. This role is ideal for candidates with extensive systems engineering expertise and a deep understanding of the DoD 5000 Acquisition Framework, particularly in support of major weapons systems.
The selected candidate will support Navy Strategic Systems Program (SSP) efforts by planning and executing technical reviews and milestones, developing systems engineering guidance, and facilitating acquisition events. This position plays a critical role in ensuring integration, interoperability, and mission success across strategic deterrence components and subsystems.
Technical Oversight and Integration:
Oversee and advise systems engineering activities across the acquisition lifecycle, including concept development, requirements definition, design, testing, deployment, and sustainment
Support and coordinate technical reviews (e.g., SRRs, PDRs, Milestone A) and provide informed analysis and recommendations
Collaborate with engineering, logistics, test, and contracting teams to ensure comprehensive technical evaluation
Assist in the creation and maintenance of acquisition documentation, objective quality evidence (OQE), technical assessments, and decision memos
Risk Management: Conduct risk assessments and identify potential technical risks
Develop and support mitigation strategies to address identified risks
Documentation and Communication: Maintain comprehensive program documentation including white papers, status briefings, and technical assessments
Communicate complex technical information effectively to internal and external stakeholders
Required Qualifications:
DoD Clearance required: Secret - TS/SCI
Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
8+ years of progressive systems engineering experience in a DoD acquisition environment
Minimum 5 years supporting ACAT I strategic deterrence programs (e.g., ICBM, SLBM, nuclear command and control)
Strong understanding of systems engineering principles including MBSE, requirements management, risk and configuration management, and architecture development
In-depth knowledge of strategic deterrence systems, operations, policies, and threats
Thorough understanding of the DoD 5000 Adaptive Acquisition Framework and associated documentation requirements
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Engineering Management, or a related field
Submarine Officer experience, preferably SSBN
Nuclear-qualified officer
PMP or CAPM certification
Prior experience supporting Navy SSP
Familiarity with developing and executing SETR milestone events and safety assessments
Compensation: Salary Range: $180,000 - $220,000 (compensation varies on position and relevant years of experience and education)
