Position Summary The Tax Principal will serve as a subject matter expert across partnership, corporate, and individual taxation. This role will provide technical leadership and act as a high-level reviewer of tax returns and related filings, supporting the partner group in delivering exceptional client service. The Tax Principal must have deep technical expertise, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to navigate complex tax matters with sound judgement and precision. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Serve as the firm’s subject matter expert on complex tax matters, including partnership, corporate, and individual taxation. Perform high-level technical review of tax returns, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and alignment with current tax laws and regulations. Provide guidance and technical support to partners, managers, and staff on sophisticated tax issues. Identify and resolve complex tax compliance and planning issues for high-value clients. Monitor legislative and regulatory development and implementation of best practices in tax compliance, review processes, and technical training. Collaborate with partners to enhance efficiency, mitigate risk, and strengthen client service delivery. Support the firm’s business development efforts by contributing technical expertise in client meetings, proposals, and thought leadership. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Extensive expertise in partnership taxation, including allocations, distributions, basis calculations, and special transactions. Strong technical knowledge of corporate and individual taxation. Proven experience as a high-level reviewer of complex tax returns across entity types. Proven experience with tax issues related to real estate, financial services, or tax credit industries. Ability to take a proactive, consultative approach and translate complex tax matters into practical business solutions. Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with partners and mentor junior professionals. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment. Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and staying current with evolving tax laws and compliance requirements. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and CPA license with a minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in public accounting or equivalent professional services environment. A JD may be considered in lieu of a CPA license. Experience with any of the following is helpful but not mandatory: Affordable Housing, Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), Opportunity Zones (OZ), Renewable Energy Tax Credits (RETC), Historical Tax Credits (HTC), Housing and Urban Development (HUD), New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC), Real Estate, Developers, Partnerships, Housing Authority (HA), Public Housing Authority, Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI), Community Development Entity Certification Applications (CDE), Property Compliance, Nonprofit, Single Audit, Uniform Guidance, A-133, Forecasting, Cost Segregation, Year 15 Exit, Tax-exempt bond and HOME programs.
