Overview The Virology (HIV) Regional Medical Scientific Director is a credentialed (i.e., MD, PhD, DNP, or PharmD) therapeutic and disease area expert who engages in scientific exchange and research support with external scientific leaders and investigators. Virology RMSDs provide balanced, factual, scientific information about non-product areas of interest and respond to scientific questions from Scientific Leaders, including questions about the Company\'s products and data. They facilitate peer-level relationships with scientific leaders and investigators and support data generation activities for sponsored trials and Investigator Study Programs as prioritized by R&D leadership. RMSDs report to the Regional RMSD Team Leader – within US Medical Affairs, Global Clinical Development, Research and Development (R&D).
Primary Activities Identify, establish and manage collaborative professional relationships with national, regional and clinical practice scientific leaders (SLs) and investigators to address scientific needs and ensure access to medical and scientific information on therapeutic areas and Company data or products
Conduct peer-level scientific discussions and maintain a reliable presence to ensure SLs have an R&D/Medical Affairs contact within the Company
Engage in proactive non-product discussions regarding scientific issues (e.g., disease states, diagnosis, epidemiology, unmet medical need, and population health) to enhance scientific discussions or inform R&D/GMA and HH strategy
Facilitate appropriate scientific exchange of information with SLs, integrating scientific knowledge with actionable insights to inform R&D and HH strategies
Communicate external stakeholder opinions, insights and feedback on new data and clinical trends to Medical Affairs HQ to inform internal R&D strategies
Represent R&D at scientific meetings and congresses and contribute to debriefs, insights, and post-congress reports
Develop and execute territory plans in alignment with global Virology strategy
Support data generation activities when requested by R&D leadership, including the Investigator Study Program, acting as primary liaison to investigators
When requested by R&D leadership, identify potential investigators for phase IIIB/III trials and provide scientific support for sponsored trials as needed
Provide in-depth scientific support to Health Systems teams within USMA
Demonstrate and maintain in-depth knowledge of the assigned disease and therapeutic area(s) through educational efforts, including attendance at conferences, workshops and review of key journals; fully comply with all company policies and applicable laws and ethical standards
Education Minimum Requirement An advanced degree (MD, PhD, DNP or PharmD) relevant to Virology and requirements of the position
Experience – Minimum Requirements A minimum of 3 years prior experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical or healthcare environment
A minimum of 3 years of clinical and/or research experience (beyond the terminal degree) in Virology/HIV or related areas with demonstrated scientific excellence
Excellent interpersonal, communication, networking and presentation skills
Ability to travel up to 50% of the time and reside in the coverage region
Skills Required Deep therapeutic competency and awareness of Virology trends
Ability to network with external customers including scientific leaders, investigators and academic institutions
Ability to consolidate and interpret complex data sets and plan/execute data analyses
Knowledge of treatment guidelines, clinical research processes, and ethical regulations (FDA, OIG, HIPAA, etc.)
Ability to organize, prioritize, and adapt in a changing environment
Preferred Capabilities Recognition for scientific excellence in Virology through clinical, academic and/or translational research
Experience in clinical Virology and independent research/publication; late-stage clinical research experience as investigator or staff
5+ years of pharmaceutical industry experience in Virology (MSL or related role)
Prior experience in the coverage region with established Virology stakeholders
Demonstrated leadership and problem-solving abilities
Strong Microsoft Office skills
Headquarters in Upper Gwynedd, PA; position is remote with residence in the coverage region
