This position will serve as a lawyer reporting to the senior managing general counsel in the transactional and regulatory legal practice group. You will work with business partners in the Grid Operation, Transmission and Regional Markets groups to further key business strategies and projects, providing counsel on federal and state regulatory considerations, and representing the company before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and potentially the Oregon Public Utility Commission. You will be a primary legal contact for regulatory issues related to transmission planning, operations, and FERC matters. This role involves advising the Company on compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, advocating for company positions, and potentially representing the company in contested proceedings before regulatory agencies. The successful candidate will join a collaborative, creative, and results-oriented legal department. PGE supports career progression, and this role will be filled at either the Assistant General Counsel or Counsel II level, depending on experience and skills. Key Responsibilities Provide legal counsel on federal regulatory issues, develop and recommend company positions, and mitigate legal risks in commercial, rate, regional, and regulatory proceedings. Identify and assess legal, business, and regulatory risks, and suggest compliance and mitigation steps. Draft and review legal contracts, documents, and provide legal analyses and recommendations. Support process improvements within the Legal department and contribute to strategic goals. Represent and advocate for PGE’s interests to government agencies, third parties, and stakeholders. Manage outside counsel to ensure effective and cost-efficient legal services. Qualifications Juris Doctor degree. 8-15 years of experience in transmission regulation and FERC matters, in private practice, in-house, or government. Admitted to Oregon State Bar or able to be admitted within 6 months. Skills and Knowledge Intermediate knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and legal practices. Ability to identify risks, solve problems, and think strategically in complex situations. Ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly to non-legal audiences. Understanding of utility industry, market, politics, and PGE policies. Physical and Cognitive Demands Ability to meet deadlines, follow standards, and work under stress. Effective team communication and problem-solving skills. Work Environment Hybrid/remote work with occasional presence in Portland, OR. Flexibility based on business needs. Compensation $132,160 - $281,710, commensurate with experience. Includes performance bonus. Total rewards support well-being and professional growth.
