Overview

Databricks is looking for an experienced commercial attorney to join our commercial and go-to-market legal team. As Legal Counsel, you will review and negotiate customer agreements and provide legal support for revenue-generating activities. You will report to the Director & AGC, Commercial Legal. This is a hybrid role with in-office expectations located in New York City, San Francisco, Mountain View, Denver, Bellevue, or Seattle.

Responsibilities

  • Become an important member of the commercial and go-to-market legal team responsible for reviewing and negotiating commercial customer agreements, balancing risk while enabling rapid revenue growth.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with field sales by providing sound, strategic counsel to close sales transactions and support go-to-market efforts.
  • Maintain and update legal agreements, ensuring terms and internal policies continue to enable rapid revenue growth and long-term stability.
  • Serve as a solutions-oriented business partner by providing pragmatic legal counsel to internal Databricks clients and our customer base, informed by knowledge of Databricks’ technology, product portfolio, information security architecture, and data privacy/compliance policies.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, Information Security, Product, and Privacy to align and enforce applicable policies and controls in global contracting processes.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of four (4) years of technology transactions experience, either at a law firm or in-house attorney role.
  • Relevant commercial transactional experience with cloud-based software companies, including consumption/commit-based models and quarterly sales cadence.
  • Experience drafting, negotiating, and closing complex software sell-side transactions; strong understanding of information security, data privacy, artificial intelligence, and intellectual property issues, including open source software.
  • Ability to counsel on complex legal issues while balancing material risk; prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced environment with tight timelines.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; growth mindset and strong critical thinking.
  • Experience working with retail and/or media/entertainment clients is a plus.
  • JD and good standing to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction.

Pay and Benefits

Zone 2 Pay Range: $151,100—$211,550 USD for non-commissionable roles or on-target earnings for commissionable roles. Total compensation may include annual performance bonus, equity, and regional benefits. For more information regarding which range applies to your location, visit the company page.
