Overview Director of Institutional Research – Institutional Research & Decision Support, Stanford, California, United States. The Office of Institutional Research and Decision Support (IR&DS) aims to be the first-choice provider of timely, high-quality, accessible information and analysis for informed decision-making at Stanford. We analyze data from Stanford’s major administrative systems and provide expertise in analysis, statistics, survey research, assessment, data warehousing, data governance, reporting, and visualization. The Director leads the institutional research function and oversees reporting to governmental agencies and external bodies, collaborating with university leadership, departments, and central offices. Responsibilities Proactively identify issues with the highest value to the university and determine methodologies for collecting and analyzing data from multiple sources. Create multi-year strategic plans to ensure access to data and findings for decision support and program evaluation. Advise senior management on programmatic and policy development and provide input to university leadership on policies and organizational practices. Advise and consult on analytical efforts outside of the organization, including other university units and peer consortia. Drive collection of new data and refinement of existing data sources; ensure reliable and consistent data for ad hoc and longitudinal inquiries. Create research designs and analytical plans; apply statistical or other techniques to analyze data. Develop communication plans to ensure stakeholders receive information in appropriate formats. Develop quality assurance plans to ensure the accuracy of findings. Interact with senior university leaders, faculty, and committees with written summaries and/or presentations; collaborate with other organizations to gather data as needed. Proactively locate data, including outside benchmarks, to support or refute proposed decisions. Direct staff and provide leadership to achieve the goals and vision of the organization; hire and retain staff, provide career coaching, professional development, and oversee performance of direct reports. * Other duties may also be assigned
Minimum Requirements Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree and seven years of relevant experience in administrative and financial management, or a combination of education and relevant experience. Preferred: advanced degree with seven years of extensive, relevant experience; experience solving analytical problems using quantitative and qualitative approaches; knowledge of data science, statistics, education research, or social science research. Demonstrated leadership, supervisory, planning, and change management skills. Advanced analytical and research skills. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Flexible analytical approach with multiple options and supporting arguments; excellent oral and written communication; ability to influence, solve problems, and manage projects; facility with manipulating high-volume data; extensive experience in empirical research; ability to use SQL, R, or similar tools; ability to use data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau); subject matter expertise in higher education research or university planning; knowledge of university administrative organization and policies. Physical Requirements: Desk-based computer tasks; occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds; occasional writing by hand, bending, stooping; rare standing or reaching. Working Conditions: May work extended hours during peak cycles.

The expected pay range for this position is $198,098 to $240,000 per annum.
