Legal supports ZS's entry into contractual agreements, ensures compliance with client services agreements and supports vendor and employment contracts.
As we continue to grow our firm, we are currently looking for a Legal Counsel with experience in employment law matters to join our office in Chicago, IL. Our legal team reviews contracts, advises the firm on matters of legal consequence, and proactively assesses and manages the firm’s risk exposure. The legal team is responsible for staying abreast of legal developments impacting the firm on a global basis and then advising the firm based on the changing legal landscape.
What you'll do
- Provide in-house legal advice on labor and employment related matters, which may include, day to day support of the human resources team, wage and hour laws, workers’ compensation, employee benefits, employee agreements and policy related issues, FMLA matters, and employment related disputes.
- Assist HR Business Partners with employee concerns, counseling, and investigations.
- Participate in and influence the decision-making process with various stakeholders.
- Respond to and counsel internal stakeholders on employment risks related to specific scenarios as they arise and which may affect day-to-day business operations.
- Stay abreast of legal developments and ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and policies.
- Draft, review, revise and negotiate legal agreements.
- Liaise with and manage outside counsel and external advisors on employment related matters.
- Protect the firm in all business relationships
- Ensure the firm’s compliance with legal policies, state and federal laws, and regulations
- Identify potential legal issues and elevate them as needed.
- Participate in structuring and managing trainings regarding best practices as well as methods for the resolution of employment-related concerns.
- Establish and maintain relationships, credibility and trust with stakeholders, legal team members and other colleagues.
What you'll bring
- JD degree with strong academic background required
- 3-5 years of relevant work experience, specifically advising on some combination of employment issues, US/international employee benefits and ERISA matters as in-house counsel or in a law firm setting
- IL attorney license (or registered in-house counsel in IL)
- Superior oral and written communication skills
- Motivation, personal initiative and strong team/interpersonal skills
- Strong analytic skills and problem solving ability
- Excellent project management skills
- Proven attention to detail and high level of accuracy
- Excellent time management skills
- Flexibility to facilitate meeting with internal and external contacts globally
