Overview

Zurich North America is hiring a Life Sciences Underwriter for the Middle Market team in Boston. Hybrid role with two days per week in the office. The role may be filled at Senior or AVP level based on candidate experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a Life Science industry practice advocate, focusing on improving the customer experience by understanding risk and offering end-to-end solutions for insurance needs.
• Apply a disciplined approach to exposure evaluation, risk assessment and pricing.
• Use risk insights, data and models to drive informed decisions at point of sale.
• Refine underwriting guidelines for life science exposures as needed.
• Identify gaps in customer programs and align Zurich’s products and value proposition to provide contract certainty.
• Demonstrate analytical skills and operate as an innovative advisor.
• Underwrite, analyze and generate new and renewal business for Life Science risks.
• Perform coverage analysis and communicate life science defenses and exposure analysis for product liability.
• Engage in market-facing activities and production within the growing Middle Markets division.
• Collaborate with multiple groups within Zurich to build knowledge of life science exposures, controls, market requirements and opportunities.
• Administer and monitor underwriting rules, insurance laws and rating manual rules.
• Develop and maintain agency and broker relationships.
• Work within broad limits and authorities on highly complex assignments.

Qualifications

Senior level

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5+ years in underwriting or market-facing area, or
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10+ years in claims or underwriting support, or
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 3+ years in underwriting or market-facing area, or
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 8+ years in claims or underwriting support; knowledge of Microsoft Office; experience meeting quotes deadlines; team experience.

AVP level

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7+ years in underwriting or market-facing area, or
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14+ years in claims or underwriting support, or
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 5+ years in underwriting or market-facing area, or
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 12+ years in claims or underwriting support; experience with Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Microsoft Office experience

Compensation and Other Information

Salary ranges are provided for nationwide context and may be adjusted for geographic differentials. Proposed salary ranges: Senior: $113,100 - $185,200 with 15% incentive; AVP: $149,500 - $245,000 with 20% incentive. Other rewards may include short-term incentives. This section reflects compensation practices and is subject to local laws and company policy.
