Johnson & Johnson is recruiting for a Medical Science Liaison in the Virginia/W. Virginia territory. This is a field-based clinical role with travel required.
Job Description The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is responsible for providing fair balanced, objective, scientific information and education to opinion leaders (OLs), health care professionals, and internal partners as required by scientific and business needs. The MSL is a scientific and clinical knowledge lead on current and future J&J Innovative Medicine products per Therapeutic Area (TA) alignment. The MSL stays abreast of current scientific and treatment landscape trends in their therapeutic area, provides research support for company and investigator-initiated research, and operates with integrity and credo values.
The MSL builds external relationships with identified OLs and health care providers (MD, PA, NP, RN, Pharm.D., biocoordinators) within a geographical territory. Engagements include virtual and in-person activities, with a prioritization of in-person interactions when appropriate. The MSL develops and maintains a territory strategic plan, including educational activities with OLs, HCPs, institutions, and community practices. The MSL rapidly identifies and collaborates with field-based partners to support Healthcare Providers and positively impact patient care. The MSL is expected to enhance skills in Change Management, Time Management, and Innovation, and to conduct all activities in accordance with regulatory and health care compliance guidelines.
This is a field-based position requiring travel, primarily within the assigned geography, with infrequent travel outside the geography. Estimated travel is up to 60%.
Responsibilities Develop and maintain a field strategic plan for the territory
Respond to unsolicited scientific inquiries from HCPs, investigators, healthcare systems, and decision makers, integrating scientific data including real-world evidence into practice
Present data and information appropriate to the audience and request
Execute reactive and proactive outreach plans in accordance with approved processes
Prioritize franchise customer-based initiatives while balancing administrative duties and projects
Engage with external investigators regarding unsolicited research inquiries and liaise with R&D, Medical Affairs, and operations
Provide clinical trial support to identify sites, resolve issues, and participate in meetings (site initiation, investigator launch, etc.)
Attend scientific conferences to gather relevant information and share medical insights
Represent and support J&J at relevant meetings and speaking engagements
Provide regional and local support to improve field personnel competencies in partnership with Sales Learning and Development
Comply with MSL SOPs, guidelines, and regulatory/legal requirements
Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant administrative records (expense reports, activity documentation)
Qualifications PharmD, PhD, MD, or other advanced medical degree, or NP/PA with 2+ years relevant TA clinical experience
Ability to travel 60–70% (overnight, including some weekends)
Ability to drive or fly to various meetings/congresses/headquarters
Valid U.S. driver’s license and clean driving record
Reside within the defined assigned territory
Preferred 2+ years relevant work experience in clinical, research, fellowship, or pharmaceutical settings with presentation skills
Knowledge or experience in the relevant therapeutic area and/or Immunology
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and remote technologies
Reside in or near Pittsburgh, PA; Washington, DC; Alexandria, VA; or Bethesda, MD
Compensation and Benefits The anticipated base pay range for this position is $115,000–$197,800. Additional descriptions for pay transparency and company benefits are provided per policy.

Base salary and benefits are subject to plan terms. The position may be eligible for additional compensation programs per company policy.
