Position: Software Architect — MassHousing Posting Closes: Close of Business on 8/21/2025 Base pay range: $119,344.00/yr - $155,147.00/yr Website: https://www.masshousing.com This role is hybrid, based on Boston MA. Overview MassHousing is seeking a Software Architect to lead the design, development, and implementation of complex software systems. The role includes high-level architectural decisions, setting technical standards, and guiding software development across the Systems Development department. The Software Architect is a technical expert in application architecture, data management, and security, and contributes to strategic planning and staff development. MassHousing operates under a hybrid work model with on-site requirements determined in collaboration with the manager; onboarding may require more frequent office presence in the first 90 days. Responsibilities Lead the design, development, and implementation of complex software systems to ensure high availability, security, performance, reliability, and scalability. Set near- and long-term technical direction with the Manager of Systems Development; evaluate technologies and products to meet IT objectives. Provide technical leadership to development teams on multiple projects; stay current with emerging trends and technologies. Define enterprise architecture standards and system-specific architectures; collaborate with developers on system design. Design secure systems, specify security requirements, and verify compliance with security best practices. Develop and champion standards, procedures, and best practices; review code and provide feedback. Identify, analyze, and remediate security vulnerabilities; document technical decisions. Collaborate with IT management and Agency leadership to evaluate, prioritize, and plan projects; coordinate estimation and staffing. Plan and execute system deployments with development and operations teams; diagnose and resolve complex issues. Support systems through administrative changes, end-user support, and troubleshooting; perform scheduled upgrades, including off-hours as needed. Optimize systems for performance and usability; upgrade technologies to support product lifecycles and new features. Recruit, develop, and retain staff; conduct performance management, coaching, and development planning; foster MassHousing’s mission and values. Ensure compliance with MassHousing’s Information Security Program and report security events or weaknesses to the Information Security Team. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent experience 4+ years software development experience 2+ years software architecture experience 2+ years experience managing software developers Experience architecting mission-critical systems with .NET and SQL Server Advanced experience with web application architectures, C#, ASP.NET Core, and Entity Framework Database modeling, normalization, performance tuning, ETL, and advanced SQL Server querying Experience with HTML, CSS, Bootstrap Experience with Azure DevOps for Agile planning, Git, and CI/CD Proven ability to design, develop, deploy, and manage applications on Microsoft Azure Eligibility to work in and travel freely to the United States without sponsorship Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of Gen AI and LLMs and their application in the software development lifecycle Experience with .NET Framework 4, ASP.NET Web Forms, Blazor PowerShell scripting proficiency Microsoft Power Platform proficiency Experience with content management systems such as Sitecore XP and WordPress Familiarity with affordable housing, mortgage lending, finance, real estate Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills; ability to mentor and inspire others Strong security-focused mindset in software development Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage shifting priorities Salary Range: $119,344.28 - $155,147.57 MassHousing is an Equal Opportunity Employer Job functions & employment details Job function: Information Technology Industries: Government Administration; Real Estate Employment type: Full-time Seniority level: Mid-Senior level MassHousing is hiring for this role and reserves the right to close or extend posting as needed.
