Base pay range $170,000.00/yr - $200,000.00/yr

We are seeking a seasoned and hands-on VP of People to join our leadership team, reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of our company's talent strategy, culture, and employee experience. As a leader in the user experience research SaaS space, our company has grown to ~200 employees and 15 contractors, with a strong presence in Chicago and operations in London, India, and Brazil. This role requires a strategic thinker who is also willing to execute day-to-day HR tasks within a small People team. It is a hands-on role! We operate with a remote-first policy, with a strong preference for this role to be based in Chicago.
Responsibilities Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute the People strategy, ensuring alignment with our business goals and company culture. Serve as a key member of the leadership team, providing guidance on all people-related matters.
Planning: Work with the CEO, CFO, COO, and functional leaders to develop and maintain headcount plans and budgets, looking for opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
Recruiting & Talent Acquisition: Oversee and manage the end-to-end recruiting process, along with the recruiting leader. While hiring needs are moderate now, you will build the scalable infrastructure to support future growth. This includes overseeing and refining our applicant tracking system, sourcing strategies, and interview processes.
Employee Experience & Culture: Lead initiatives to maintain and enhance our strong, welcoming, and inclusive culture, including partnership and coordination with our important Inclusion Committee. Build a culture of accountability and excellence. Oversee employee engagement programs, feedback mechanisms, and communication strategies to ensure a positive remote-first work environment.
Total Rewards & Benefits: Manage and help to negotiate all aspects of our global compensation and benefits programs, including health and wellness, retirement plans, and non-sales cash-comp structures. This role will also be responsible for PEO-style operations and benefits administration in our international subsidiaries and operations.
Learning & Development: Create and implement comprehensive training and development programs to support employee professional growth, skill enhancement, and career progression.
International Operations: Serve as the primary point of contact for all people-related matters in our London, India, and Brazil operations. Ensure compliance with local labor laws, manage international payroll, and support global mobility as needed.
Compliance: Maintain and manage compliance activities and reporting across all relevant jurisdictions, working with fellow leaders to reduce risk of all types.
Hands-On Execution: This is not just a strategic role. You will be expected to perform a significant amount of hands-on work, including managing employee relations issues, administering HR systems, and handling day-to-day inquiries.
Characteristics Experienced Leader: A minimum of 10 years of experience in human resources, with at least 3-5 years in a VP or equivalent level role, preferably within a SaaS or technology company.
Clear performance orientation: Able to create and build performance-based orientation and culture, as well as be oriented this way yourself.
Global business Acumen: Proven experience managing people operations in an international context, particularly with an understanding of labor laws and cultural nuances in the UK, India, and Brazil.
Strategic & Tactical: Possesses the ability to think strategically and develop long-term plans while also having a strong willingness to perform hands-on, tactical work.
Cultural Add: A champion of our welcoming and collaborative culture, with a focus on building accountability, trust and strong relationships across the organization.
Communication Skills: Excellent concise communication and interpersonal skills, including strong written skills, capable of influencing senior leaders and engaging with employees at all levels.
Chicago-based: While the role is remote-first, a preference for being located in Chicago to facilitate in-person collaboration with the COO and leadership team.
