# General CounselLongwood Collective(Exceptional Executive Search)### Job DescriptionThe seeks aseasoned attorney to join its executive team as General Counsel of a nationally respected nonprofit serving Boston’s Longwood Medical and Academic Area (LMA)—one of the City’s most dynamic neighborhoods and a hub of innovation, healthcare, education, and culture. Reporting to and partnering with the President and CEO, the General Counsel serves as the organization’s chief legal officer, providing counsel across all operations, including its wholly-owned for-profit subsidiary, MASCO Services, Inc. This executive role ensures regulatory compliance, proactively limiting corporate risk, supports strong governance, and manages legal resources to advance strategic goals and initiatives.**The Organization:**Established as MASCO in 1972 to help steward the growth and vitality of the Longwood Medical and Academic Area (LMA), the Longwood Collective (LC) continues to represent the interests of member institutions, including world-class clinical, scientific, academic, and cultural organizations. LC’s services include transportation and commuter programs with 37 shuttles and 2,000+ parking spaces; a 300,000-square-foot mixed-use facility and garage at 375 Longwood Avenue; and an award-winning child care center. LC is also a leading voice on area planning, development, public policy, and sustainability. Its taxable subsidiary, MASCO Services, Inc., offers cost-saving contracts (e.g., elevator maintenance) and a state-of-the-art Call Center serving companies across the region.**Position Summary:**The General Counsel oversees the full scope of the organization’s legal affairs, including contracts, employment and benefits, intellectual property, compliance, real estate, litigation management, business security, and risk management. The role provides direct support to the President & CEO, executive team, and Board of Directors, ensuring that governance policies and practices align with current law and best practice. The General Counsel manages outside legal resources, advises on subsidiary operations and intercompany agreements, supports enterprise risk management and data privacy compliance, and serves as a trusted partner in advancing the organization’s mission and strategic priorities.**Qualifications Summary:**A Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and a license to practice law in Massachusetts are required. At least 8 years of legal practice, advising executives and boards on governance, compliance, and organizational risk. Knowledge of nonprofit law and subsidiary oversight; proven analytical, communication, and presentation skills; and high ethical standards and integrity. Ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely to various audiences, manage multiple priorities with flexibility, and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders. Experience managing legal staff and/or outside counsel. Familiarity with real estate, transit, healthcare, or other sectors relevant to LC operations is a plus.*Longwood Collective, Inc. is proud to be an equal-opportunity employer.
